Like most Soldiers, my Army training began with my initial entry training. As my career progressed I was introduced to electromagnetic warfare (EW) as a Sergeant. My career in EW began during a time when the Army's EW efforts were focused almost exclusively on Counter Radio-Controlled Improvised Explosive Device Electronic Warfare (or CREW for short). I completed the Army's CREW Master Gunner Course at Fort Huachuca, AZ in January of 2014. My passion for EW grew quickly and I officially reclassed to become an EW Non-Commissioned Officer in November of 2015. The more I worked in the field of EW the more my passion grew. As a result I was given the opportunity to represent the Mississippi Army National Guard at the multinational Joint Electronic Warfare Theatre Operations Course and Symposium in October of 2017. This experience solidified my decision to become a subject matter expert in EW, now known as Electromagnetic Warfare.
In May of 2018 I graduated from the Army's Warrant Office Candidate School at Fort Rucker, AL. Upon graduating, I immediately deferred my appointment to Warrant Office in order to deploy with my unit as the Brigade's EW Non-Commissioned Officer In Charge of Cyber Electromagnetic Activities (CEMA). I returned to the U.S., received my honorable discharge from the Army National Guard, and accepted my appointment to Warrant Officer the next day. As a newly pinned Warrant Officer I attended and completed my Electromagnetic Warfare Technician Warrant Office Basic Course from October (WOBC) 2018 to February 2019.
During my WOBC, I realized the abundant correlations between the Army's EW and Space operations; ergo, I attended and completed the Army's Space Cadre Basic Course in May of 2019. With a deeper understanding of the Army's EW and Space operations there was only one remaining knowledge gap that I needed to address to complete my trifecta of CEMA understanding and competency. In August of 2019, I acquired my CompTIA Network+ certification; within less than a month I also acquired my CompTIA Security+ certification in September of 2019. These cyberspace certifications, coupled with my understanding of the Army's Space operations and my knowledge and experience conducting Army EW operations, allowed me to provide honest and reliable CEMA subject matter expertise.
My postsecondary education started in August of 2009 at East Central Community College (ECCC or simply EC), in Decatur, MS. During my first two years at EC, I spent most of my attention on my studies, my civilian job as a Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning Service Technician, and my military career in the Mississippi Army National Guard. During my second year at EC, I was inducted into the Theta Xi Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society and I joined to the East Central Community College Warrior's Corps. Upon the successful completion of my second year (fourth semester) of college, I graduated in May of 2011 with my first Associate's Degree in Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning Technology with a 3.8 overall grade point average (GPA).
Due to the unusually high number of classes that I consistently took each semester, I was offered the opportunity to acquire a second associate's degree by completing two additional semesters. I took advantage of this opportunity. During my third year in college, I was elected as the President of the East Central New Direction Club, Vice President of Leadership for the Theta Xi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa honor society, Treasurer of the Environmental Club, and I joined the ECCC Business Club. I also retained my position as a member of the EC Warrior's Corps and continued my military career. After my third year of college I graduated again, this time in May of 2012 with my Associate's Degree in Business Administration with a 3.5 overall GPA.
After earning two associate degrees, I continued my education at the University of Southern Mississippi (Southern Miss) in August of 2012. During my time at Southern Miss I shifted my attentions from academic extracurriculars to corporate industry analysis and comparisons. I focused the majority of my attention on the continuation of my military education and service as a new promoted Sergeant and Squad Leader. On the civilian side I focused my attention on preparing for the transition from college student to contributing member of the American workforce. After five years (ten consecutive semesters), I graduated for the third time. In August of 2014 I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Business Management.
Today I am enrolled at the University of Maryland's Global Campus, and pursuing my second bachelor's degree, this time majoring in Computer Networking and Cybersecurity. I hope to graduate with my second bachelor's in May of 2024 and graduate with my master's degree in Cybersecurity Management and Policy in 2026.
